Fabric Mermaid Tail Care

Fabric Mermaid Tail Care

Fabric mermaid tails are a beautiful artistic expression between tail maker and customer. But fabric mermaid tails are certainly not indestructible. Why? Because it’s JUST fabric. It doesn’t matter how much the fabric mermaid tail costs, at the end of the day, it is only fabric. What you’re paying for is the artists time, the printing costs and the manufacturing of the tail itself. Once you’ve acquired your fabric tail, they then require care and careful swimming to prevent major damage.  Be sure to keep your feet and fins off the floor while swimming, most pool have rough surfaces. Sand is also rough and can damage your tail. Never hop or drag your fluke along the ground. Never jump in your mermaid tail. This damages your tail and is a safety risk for bodily injury.  Avoid any sitting, kneeling or lying on pool steps or shallow ends, this can also cause more wear. Tails with darker coloring will have more apparent wear & pilling than tails with lighter colours. It is not as noticeable once the tail is in the water and completely soaked. Your tail is safe to use in freshwater, saltwater or chlorinated water. After each use, the tail should be properly rinsed and dried to prevent mildew or mold growth. Thoroughly rinsing with cold or warm water, drain and lay flat to dry without the vinyl monofin casing. Your tail skin, NO VINYL, can be machine washed and spun, however DO NOT tumble dry the fabric skin, DRIP DRY ONLY! To dry the vinyl monofin casing, remove it from your tail skin, open it flat and use a towel, microfiber cloth or paper towel to dry off any excess water. Leave to dry flat. You can store your tail skin folded or rolled up in a draw or shelf. However, the vinyl casing should be stored flat. If this isn’t possible the viny casing can be stored folded. But in the colder months it will become stiff and keep its folded shape. To remove these creases or curls lay your monofin casing flat in a warm or room temperature area and it will flatten back to its natural shape, usually within a couple of hours. At the end of the day, scuffs and damage don't take away from the magic and the joy that tails bring. Fabric isn't magic, and only you can protect your tail by swimming gently and paying attention to aftercare.
